Hello guys, wiring up the starter motor, there are three terminals the big one is obviously the one for battery and alternator. I just need some one to confirm which of the other two pins connects to the solenoid? One is labelled S and one is labelled R..... Cant make it out in the engine manual.

Is 3 litre mercruiser

Cheers

Does your 3.0L have a year or serial number?

Re: Starter motor wiring

large stud: main battery cable, Red is system power, Orange ,alt feed.
small stud closest to block "S" gets the yellow/red stripe wire
small stud (R ,if used) gets(I think) a purple/red stripe .Used to supply full power to coil during cranking.

Thank you, engines all in now. She's turning over fine, got sparks and fuel, just can't get her started :(

Getting some very loud back fires from the exhaust just hope it's just the timing that needs sorting out......tried turning the dissy by hand but still no luck.....

Double check the distributor install. Make sure #1 piston is TDC on compression stroke & rotor is pointing #1 cyl at the cap.

Cheers guys.

I have also read on here that some times the shift interupt switch can stop the engine starting up? and that it might need resetting would this apply to my 3.0L too? and if so how is this done as it appears to just be a micro switch?

Hey Guys! Had the engine running today, sounded sweet as a nut :) . However, I did notice that when shifting the revs were quite high before it fully engaged, is this normal? I did Installed a new shift cable, but all in accordance with the mercruiser manual?? :S

I ve also noticed I ve got a small oil leak coming from the bottom pulley seal (the pulley with the key way) any ideas on how it fit this? I fitted a new seal when I rebuilt her and can't figure out were I went wrong....
