i have a 1996 25hp merc. the starter motor keeps sticking. i have taken it out of the metal casing and given the copper ring a light sanding .I wasn't sure if this would help but it seemed like a logical thing to do. it made no difference. after about 20 starts the starter motor jammed again. when its jammed i can hear something clicking in the motor when i turn the key but nothing happens. im guessing that the brushes/bushes are sticking to the copper thing beneath them? how can i stop this? ty, mike.
