Good afternoon,

I have a 1991 Caravelle Interceptor with a 351 OMC Cobra 5.8L. The starter began chewing up the ring gear on the flywheel so I bought a new starter and ring gear. While doing some research the old style 9 tooth CW starter seems to be obsolete, so I bought one that states it will work for my year motor.

It is a 10 tooth CW rotation, but it has a solenoid mounted on the outside of the starter with a black wire attached. The old starter only had the "red" power wire coming from the starter assist solenoid.

Two questions:

1) What is the black wire for and where does it attach.

2) Will the 10 tooth vs 9 tooth make a difference?

Thank you for your help.

Re: Starter Help

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,... The new starter has the solenoid mounted to it,...

The battery wire goes on the solenoid, 'n the little black wire is the solenoid, powerin' the starter...

Tooth count shouldn't matter...
