ok went to see the little 16'.
  • Looks pretty cherry, floor is not soft but weak appears to be 1/2" so you can feel flex (I'm 220).
  • Motor looks good under the hood, no critter evidence - he states he replaced the coil. No tilt/trim - easy to add?
  • Owner said he has used it twice in three years, it was his sons for 10 years before that and he never really used it.
  • Looks to have had a new skin put on the bow, it is shiny not painted like the rest. Couldn't access underneath there is a panel with speaker in it screwed down. Couple hole in the bow not patched but couldn't push down so seems solid.
  • Floor wood at bilge is solid, I could feel some foam blocks under there and could lift up with one finger so pretty sure no water in them.
  • No cracks visible in transom support pieces and didn't see anything on splashwell
  • Could not put downward force on transom (light boat fat guy) but couldn't get any movement upward and all looked ok.
  • Looks like original bimini, in good shape needs a clean.
  • Didn't see any missing rivets and no 'goop' of any kind on the bottom.

Think I could flip it for more than $1000 - $1300 if I wanted to? Don't want to but just in case. I want to take out the back twwo seats and have as my fishing boat or maybe for the kids to use in a couple years.

I told him I'd let him know if I was interested tomorrow, then I'd come back and we'd haggle on price (no comments form him on that one).

Small dent maybe pushed 1/2" max

other side

the 'shiny' bow. Note the open headed rivet (i'm sure there is a more technical name than that) at the bottom of the pic.

Maybe it's just the pic but that looks like more than a dent to me... Looks like a tear or crack..

Open headed rivet = pop rivet

you are correct - didn't notice when taking the pic. Enlarged the original

Shouldn't be too bad? Looks like they did put some sealant in it?

Well that is structural damage.... IE an area where the two panels aren't connected and since it is right next to a seam it will require drilling the adjecent rivets out to put a patch on it... Not terribly hard to do but more involved than just squirting in some goop.....

The patch would share the original rivet holes and then rivet around up the other side of the crack after the crack was stopped by drilling holes at the ends.

There would be a bit of hammer and dolly work to fit the patch and/or straighten the damaged area and then seal the patch with 5200 and closed (inside) end pop rivets.

The entire repair CAN be done from the outside IF there is't more damage inside the boat which I doubt there would be.

That's a factory rivet. I haven't looked under mine to see if it's closed or open.

That crack/gash is a leaker. It looks like goop was smeared in that area.

Im new at this rebuilding stuff and I would use that as a big bargaining tool and take it home for the right price and dive into it. As long as this isnt the one the ex wife and new bf are selling of the ex husbands. Lol

weld? The space is less than 1/8" I would guess.

Welding isn't really an option because you'll never get it clean enough.... Any contaminants will ruin an aluminum weld.

He's saying the RIVET is factory and he hasn't look at the bottom of the rivet to see if it is open or closed on the inside.

so you are saying the bow could be open and just a cap put on at factory to make closed?

The boat you're looking at was built as a closed bow run about. The rivet secures the joint between the bow cap and gunnel. The rivet is factory installed. Again, I haven't looked at mine to see if the rivet is open or closed head. Just what SOTW said.

bummer, sorry to hear that, looks like a a pretty good project and the price was right. Also sad to hear speg had to let her go, I first saw this one on c-list a few years back and the deal never happened after he decided to keep it and restore it. Every now and then the big ones show up, hope you find one.

There's a newer bigger one on fleabay up in wisconsin looks like it has a merc on the back
