Glad you're back on her, Brad. Sorry the engine was toast, but you made out gangbusters getting rid of it and the outdrive for a $grand. One of the other threads has the saga of trying to find a Cobra impeller, so you made the right choice ditching it. What are you planning for power? Don't know anything about the land sea camper, but sounds interesting.

We've decided to go big outboard bracket with a 150-250hp ive got my eye on a newer yamaha 150 but we'll see
anyway the land sea is a adaptation of a vw bus and a 25'ish boat they were made in the 70's it was like why have a camper and a boat that is how i'm doing it:D

That Chief is huge Brad! You could almost make an apartment in it. Another website to check out is www.fishyfish.com it is the site for Tolman skiffs. Some of the bigger ones have pretty serious camping type accomodations. Have fun with it!

well that's kinda like a land sea camper but not... I bet those people have some serious corrosion issues

with my project I want to keep the basic look the same I just want to add a hard top and make the pilot area a little more comfortable

so I found a couple of 1980 johnson 150's rebuilt in 90' and they have 150 hours on them and haven't been started in three years and have been used in salt water what would be a fair price and are they even worth the effort

I saw this Islander today with a bracket that bolts into an I/O keyhole. I can get more pics or measurements if you want.

Google says that the company Gil is no longer in business.

I would think a competent welder could fab that from the material similar to what Weldzilla described. It looks to be about 1/2 aluminum plate inside the boat and maybe something covered in glass on the bracket itself.

Everybody with one on ebay seems to be very fond of it, but that's a good place to get design ideas. There are several basic aluminum plate ones on there.

If Weldzilla works with you, you will be all set.

so I'm trying to figure out how far forward to move my fuel tank what is the static waterline of these boats bow heavy or stern heavy?

Re: Starcraft Chieftain The Big Chief restoration

I wouldn't do it. It adds weight and drag to the boat.
