Standard o-ring vs. OEM

Found this out today and was planning on using the boat for a short trip . And the upper was quite a bit low.

Do you think I am okay to use a standard black rubber o-ring from a hardware store, or is this one of those things that it has to be an OMC part?

If you can get the correct sized EPDM O-ring. Install it and go boating

I know I have an OEM seal kit at home...... Unfortunately home is 2 hours from the boat and lake .
