I am considering buying this as a fishing boat. Don't know much about it other than it is stainless steel. I am thinking based on a bit of research that it may be a Starcraft from the 50's? Anyone know?

All of the Starcrafts I have seen from the 40s-50’s have the star logo on the two corners on the rear of the boat. I will post a pic of mine. I am almost certain mine is from the 1940’s. It had a metal covering over the bow but it was so damaged we replaced it with wood

Also I believe mine is galvanized steel. I do not know how to test it to find out.
Have you seen the old ads/flyers for stainless steel/galvanized steel boats. I googled it and an ton of vintage ads came up. I bet you can find it there

@Jdog3295 - do a search for "Elgin Stainless Steel Boat" and see if that gets you in the ball field.

Look that one over carefully : not sure what's going on with the transom in the photos. Could just be a coating, but it looks weird to me.

Welcome aboard.

Also, the sides appear to be pieced together in the middle, and the hull looks hogged at that location.

Ya I noticed that also. It is in another state and I will be seeing it this wknd. He said that that is just the original seam. I am waiting for a photo of the other side to compare. I talked him to $1100. Does that seem like a reasonable price assuming the trailer and motor are in good shape as he claims?

yes I noticed that transom in the photos as well. I do not know if it is normal for it to be solid wood back there? I assume the metal is sandwiched in between but it does look odd.

Here is a picture of the other side for comparison. Appears to be the original seam in the steel on both sides.

Typically the transom on a boat like that is metal, with wood on both sides. But not usually across the entire stern. That one looks like there's wood all across the back. Can you see the metal on the inside of the transom?

You've had it on the water and it doesn't leak, right?

I haven't seen it yet as it is one I am considering buying. I asked him about the entire wood transom. He says the metal is sandwiched between wood. Not sure why it was done this way. I definitely want to check the integrity back there.
