Also I believe mine is galvanized steel. I do not know how to test it to find out.I am considering buying this as a fishing boat. Don't know much about it other than it is stainless steel. I am thinking based on a bit of research that it may be a Starcraft from the 50's? Anyone know?

Put a magnet on it. If it doesn't stick its SS. If it DOES stick, its either galvanized or it could be low grade SS.Also I believe mine is galvanized steel. I do not know how to test it to find out.
Also, the sides appear to be pieced together in the middle, and the hull looks hogged at that location.@Jdog3295
Look that one over carefully : not sure what's going on with the transom in the photos. Could just be a coating, but it looks weird to me.

Ya I noticed that also. It is in another state and I will be seeing it this wknd. He said that that is just the original seam. I am waiting for a photo of the other side to compare. I talked him to $1100. Does that seem like a reasonable price assuming the trailer and motor are in good shape as he claims? Also, the sides appear to be pieced together in the middle, and the hull looks hogged at that location.
yes I noticed that transom in the photos as well. I do not know if it is normal for it to be solid wood back there? I assume the metal is sandwiched in between but it does look odd.@Jdog3295 - do a search for "Elgin Stainless Steel Boat" and see if that gets you in the ball field.

Welcome aboard.
Here is a better picture of the TransomAlso, the sides appear to be pieced together in the middle, and the hull looks hogged at that location.
Here is a picture of the other side for comparison. Appears to be the original seam in the steel on both sides. Also, the sides appear to be pieced together in the middle, and the hull looks hogged at that location.
I haven't seen it yet as it is one I am considering buying. I asked him about the entire wood transom. He says the metal is sandwiched between wood. Not sure why it was done this way. I definitely want to check the integrity back there.Typically the transom on a boat like that is metal, with wood on both sides. But not usually across the entire stern. That one looks like there's wood all across the back. Can you see the metal on the inside of the transom?
You've had it on the water and it doesn't leak, right?
