Re: Spray "bedliner" to replace carpet?

All I can say is that some relatives used herculiner to coat an outdoor wheelchair ramp that has a pressure treated plywood surface. It has worked well for about 10 years and never gets covered. They used the black and every couple years they use the UV topcoat.

thanks for that...i figure the UV topcoat is a requirement for a deck to help it last. :)

just to add to the "boat value" comments.

what bubba said is true !.

unless the boat is strictly a fishing boat or a toon.

the majority of purchasers are family use. not strictly fishing. the family market means mom and the kids......mom will go with carpet or shiney gellcoat with snap in carpet every time.
while the strictly fishing community will go for the hard surface for easy cleaning.

the family market multi purpose "fish and ski" will out sell the single purpose boat 2:1. this is based on the total market share. vs the single purpose market share.

so .....when selling the boat....if a family looks at the boat,(with a dura deck).....it had better be cheap, or they will pass on it.
if you can find the prefect buyer. the most you will get is what you are asking......if you ask too high.....no one will buy the boat !

There are enough "family" boaters out there that have experienced bad floors or that know the drawbacks of carpet that I personally don't think you are decreasing the value of a boat by putting in bedliner. Sure you will lose some buyers that absolutely have to have carpet, but there are others, like myself, that would view bedliner as a plus and probably pay a bit more. You can also put carpet right over the bedliner, or better yet get some snap in carpet made and have the best of both worlds. Have you looked at new boats?? Only snap in carpet in a lot of them with a totally gelcoated floor. The only benefit of carpet in my opinion is that it feels good underfoot.
