Spray "bedliner" to replace carpet?

My boat is 12 years old and the ugly red carpet needs replacing. I hate it anyway and thought of having the deck "sprayed" with a bedliner type material, or even trying to do it myself. I don't think the extra weight would be a huge issue....has anyone tried this? Any advice or thoughts? I would try to go with a light color so it wouldn't be hot...but I think it might work ok.

Jason..... we have many iboats member's who have had good luck using Durabak (a non slip deck coating) and we have also had a few nightmares about bedliner!

Google Durabak and they have many colors too. ;)

Boats are sprayed frequently with "bedliner" material, you just need to make sure it is an aliphatic product, especially if you want a light color. An aliphatic polyurethane won't fade or discolor like any normal polyurethane will. Rhino Linings has one called SolarMax and it also will give you the non-slip properties you need for a boat.

I sprayed bedliner in my boat, it is a 1973 Baja, and I love it, way better than carpet

Isn't a spray-in bedliner a little rough on the bare feet? Especially if there are little ones also?

I just got a sample of Durabak in the mail. After seeing it, that's what I'm going to use. I don't plan on being barefoot in the boat; the Durabak would probably remove any calluses I had.

If you DIY both rattle can and roll on bedliners can be applied from either super rough to fairly smooth. It is the way you apply it.

There is a bedliner that is more rubbery than others and can be made any color you want. I forget the name but I am sure you can search and find it.

I used the gray Herculiner in my bass boat and I love it. I covered the floors, decks, and hatch lids and it turned out better than I expected. Maybe I can get some pics on here soon. It is also very easy to do it yourself.

I used Durabak and I love it. It does hold dirt though. I just got a deck scrubber from West marine and it is all good.

I'm going with the Durabak as well, I was told by someone in this group to put one heavy coat of the textured and two coats of the smooth. This would still have the non-slip properties but be smooth enough as to not collect dirt.
Also, go with a light color so it dosen't get so hot on the feet.

Is the durabak too rough for bare feet? I do have lots o' barefooted little ones aboard my ship frequently.

I highly recommend this stuff. I've never used Durabak for boat decks, but I have used it to line 'glass Jeep tubs and was happy with the results.

No but I wish someone would so we'd know as I've seen a number of users ask about it. Overton's has a branded coating as well which I'm sure is the same thing.

Hey Bond-o

Durabak has the rubbery texture. If I did another deck, I would apply one heavy coat textured, and seal with non-textured. I applied 3 coats of textured to my Bayliner deck, and it was to much... They have the colors you want also...

Durabak is tough stuff!
