Ok, I'm new to the forum and learning a lot about my boat. I have a 1996 Maxum 1900sr with a 4.3L mercruiser and Alpha I Gen II outdrive. I have replaced all the bellows and trim sending units, I am about to put it back together and this is likely a ridiculous question but I need to know. There is a small push pin type clip that holds the speedometer hose to the back of the gimbal housing just above where you reconnect it. I am wondering how water doesn't enter in through this hole and into the exhaust bellows? Thanks!

Guessing it's the tree clip speedo tube clamp attached to the forward side of the exhaust passage at the bell housing?

If so, no worries. Speedo tube is independent of any water passage save for the pitot at the leading edge of the gearcase

The exhaust bellows are already full of water. The exhaust is open to water on the prop end… also the cooling water that comes out of the engine after getting warm is discharged overboard by the exhaust

Ahhhh, I didn't realize exhaust bellows actually fill with water, thought maybe there was a one way flap or something. Thank you everyone for helping out a newbie!
