Problem is that they know you well and are almost on a first-name basis, now. ;)

I can just see the scene in the Photo Center War Room.

Tech #1: "Hey Guys, check this out, Scott has a plate cover...." ;):D

So now the game is what costs more....

Repeated red light tickets or,

repeated tickets for the plate cover????

Well, it depends. If the cover isn't blocking the view of the plate from behind, chances are the cops won't care. But they can.

It's the reason why I didn't install mine. I got one for my truck and my bike. I've just learned to pretty much avoid the intersections that have them.

Isn't it funny? You try to prevent yourself from getting a bull**** ticket and it's against the law to do so.

Re: Speed/red light cameras

There isn't much you cando with the red light cams... I got busted over the summer even though I damn near jacked my throwout bearing putting in first gear trying to hurry up and stop, get back on the gas again to make the turn before traffic got on me.

With the speed cameras, not much you can do about that other than slowing down. with my previous job, I had a 130 mile/day commute... and my car gets mid-30s average gas mileage... I found that at 10 over the speed limit on the highway, I was averaging 36mpg. Took it down to 5 over speed limit, and bumped it up to almost 38. Took it down to the speed limit after several weeks and was pushing over 38mpg (even hit 40 mpg a few times depending on where I bought the gas, temperature, etc)... and, NO, I don't own a hybrid.
I also found that I've eliminated a lot of stress in my life by slowing down... you really don't gain that much in terms of time and as gas approaches 3$ and above, it'll be an easy way to keep more coin in your pocket.

Re: Speed/red light cameras

my truck was getting 16 mpg highway.
then i slowed down to about 55 or 60. and was drafting behind trucks.
and i got 21 mpg on this one trip.

but the i got tires that were 4 inches bigger, and my highway milage went down to 13.

Haven't received a surprise in the mail lately. I put the cover on my truck, but only occasionally drive it in the city anymore. I either have remebered all of the cam locations, or my trapster has saved me...

Re: Speed/red light cameras

Here in Iowa, a state legislator got a camera ticket in Cedar Rapids and it upset him so much he's introduced a bill to ban the cameras in Iowa. With the whack jobs we elected last fall he's got a good chance of getting it through.

Orlando installs new red light cameras every week. $158 plucked from your pocket if you get caught out. Luckily all the cameras I've seen are clearly marked.

DC, and Baltimore are two big crap holes - some punks stole my car, and got some red light tickets years ago, and I still havn't
been able to straighten it out - I have come to the conclusion
that I never will. Boating is so much nicer. They say I owe over $1400.00, that they are going to boot my car. If they do, I think I'll set fire to it. I have fixed it with the MVA but not with their
collection dogs. :mad::eek::facepalm:

Re: Speed/red light cameras

I am not at all comfortable with the notion that seems popular here: It is okay to break the law, ie: speed or run red lights, if you can avoid getting caught.

I agree that few LEOs will stop you for driving +5 or +8-10% because that speed does not really increase the danger to other drivers.

On the other hand, abundant evidence proves that "flooring it" on a short yellow light runs a high risk of getting you T-boned by some driver who has timed the light and enters, on a green light, at 30-45mph. If you survive you will be the bad guy, and might have murdered some poor soul and/or his little girl.

This topic has been beat to death and is getting too tense.

Is it really worth that risk??
