Re: Speed/red light cameras

when it snows i leave the snow on my bumper so that it covers up the liscense plate.

the mud on the tag might be a good idea.

they can only put the speed cameras in work and school zones in md, right?

Re: Speed/red light cameras

Well........ time for me to enter the twilight zone.... I think a little speed is okay say 5 mph as long as it is safe to do and not a school zone..... you have to have the visibility etc.

Red lights are a bit of another story..... that's pure danger in my opinion because Red is Red and there is always a warning before it turns red. Most of the LEO here in VT will cut slack on speed (if you are honest and it is like 5-7 over) but no slack at all on traffic lights. I know of severe accidents that have happen at traffic lights vs crossing traffic....... very ugly......

We do not have camera's and my "populated" area ........ YET and I take nothing for granted.

I would invite everyone on iboats to visit VT (considering iboats has membership equaling 1/3rd the entire population!!!) and even speed just a little but watch out for our lights and children.

Not from what I can tell. That last video is not in a school nor work zone. I do the absolute speed limit in both zones anyway. Otherwise I do 5-7 mph over, even though some of these tickets say otherwise.

I agree with Bob about the red lights, BUT in my experience, the light turns yellow right when I am hitting the intersection sometimes, and it immediately turns red. They are supposed to be set to a standard, but every known intersection where there's a camera, it is quicker.
If I ever get some free time I will record a few of the intersections.

I did run my trapster all day today woohoo!

Re: Speed/red light cameras

Two men were driving down a city street, as they approach a red stop light, the man driving speeds up and drives through.

Shocked, the passenger yells, "What are you doing!"

The driver just responds in a casual tone, "That's the way Skargo drives." :eek:

As they continue down the street, they again came upon another red stop light and again the driver speeds through the intersection.

Again the passenger yells, "What the $%#@@! are you doing!"

The driver says, "That's the way Skargo drives". :eek:

Not too long after that, they came upon a green light.

The driver quickly slams on his brakes and comes to a complete stop just before the intersection.

The angry passenger screams, "It's a ^&%$$#@ green light!"

The driver says, "Yes, but Skargo might be coming the other way!" ;):D

that is how you have to drive in aberdeen, where i live.
the cops there will give you a ticket for running a yellow light.

where the speed limit is lower, like in downtown baltimore, they have shorter yellow lights becuase you don't need as much time to stop, since you are going slow.

so at say 35 mph you may need only 2 seconds to stop, but at 55 you need 4.
so hince a longer yellow light.

Actually you can take two 25mph lights, one with a camera, and one without, and the one with has a shorter yellow.

Re: Speed/red light cameras

maybe instead of a film or cover over the plate you could set up a really bright light to light up the plate. The thought here is that the camera is set up for a certain light level. There will be too much light coming off of the plate which will flood the image.

Just a thought, I don't know if you could get away with this. :rolleyes:

Probably not in TX:
AN ACT
relating to an offense involving a motor vehicle with an altered or
obscured license plate.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 502.409, Transportation Code, is amended
by amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (c) to read as
follows:
(a) A person commits an offense if the person attaches to or
displays on a motor vehicle a number plate or registration insignia
that:
(1) is assigned to a different motor vehicle;
(2) is assigned to the vehicle under any other motor
vehicle law other than by the department;
(3) is assigned for a registration period other than
the registration period in effect;
(4) is fictitious;
(5) has blurring or reflective matter that
significantly impairs the readability of the name of the state in
which the vehicle is registered or the letters or numbers of the
license plate number at any time;
(6) has an attached illuminated device or sticker,
decal, emblem, or other insignia that is not authorized by law and
that interferes with the readability of the letters or numbers of
the license plate number or the name of the state in which the
vehicle is registered; or
(7) has a coating, covering, protective material,
or other apparatus that:
(A) distorts angular visibility or
detectability;
(B) alters or obscures one-half or more of the
name of the state in which the vehicle is registered; or
(C) alters or obscures the letters or numbers of
the license plate number or the color of the plate.
(c) Subsection (a)(7) may not be construed to apply to:
(1) a trailer hitch installed on a vehicle in a normal
or customary manner;
(2) a transponder, as defined by Section 228.057, that
is attached to a vehicle in the manner required by the issuing
authority;
(3) a wheelchair lift or wheelchair carrier that is
attached to a vehicle in a normal or customary manner;
(4) a trailer being towed by a vehicle; or
(5) a bicycle rack that is attached to a vehicle in a
normal or customary manner.

Thanks! I had heard that stuff doesn't work, but it's probably worth trying at least.

Re: Speed/red light cameras

I am a cop and hate the red light cameras. I also do not agree with municipal run camera systems. "Big Brother" is more and more becoming a problem. While I am at it if your car is newer than an 02 it has a "black box" that will record your speed, braking and accel. rates on your vehicle. Well, after ranting a bit, here is why I posted. Try this stuff.

Oh heck why not just use Krylon!!!:D

Re: Speed/red light cameras

Wow, you have lenient laws. You should count your blessings instead of complaining.

In this state, getting 10 speeding tickets in a year would be pretty hard. If you kept them all at no more than 6 over or less you MIGHT be able to get there.

Basically, in this state, somewhere around the 7th or 8th ticket (depends on the amount of points you're docked each ticket) you'd have your license suspended. Drive after that and the first thing you'll get is probation and again and it'll be 90 days in county. Keep it up enough and you'll actually end up in Lincoln at our lovely state prison.

Whatever you do, don't move here and try that!

As was stated before, these are CIVIL violations, not criminal. Think: A bill from the traffic light company. If you don't pay it, they put it into collections, but your insurance company does NOT see it, it does NOT go on your driving record, etc etc.

There is no limit on the number you can get and keep your license. After all, how many bills can you not pay and keep your license? A lot, huh?

Comrade, I have a feeling that too will change shortly.
