Speed approximations please... :)

Just curious if you guys think I'm seeing the speeds I should out of my boat. 1994 Bayliner Capri 1604 Sportsman (Bowrider), dry wt (per NADA Guide) of 1350lbs. 1994 Force 70HP o/b. I'm seeing 28-30mph (GPS) at WOT with 2 adults and one skinny 7 year old, 12gals of fuel, and not much in the way of gear. For some bizarre reason, the boat came factory without ANY guages, no less a tach, so I can't say what my rpm's are. I'll be installing a tach within the next week or two. As far as the prop, I know NOTHING about it, but I would guess it is the original.

If any of you guru's and guru-wannabe's can make a guess, I'd appreciate it.

your speed is in the ball park with that engine. Look at the prop. You should see numbers on the hub behind or just above the prop nut, or stamped into the hub between the blades. 13-1/2x17 = 13 inch diameter x 17 inches of pitch for example. a string of numbers = the prop manufacturers part or model number.

Your speed sounds about right. My 18' Bayliner Capri with a Force 120 would run mid to high 30's loaded like yours, low 40's with just me and hardly any gas in it.

My 16' Mark Twain does 34 at WOT with a 120 HP I/O.
