Some basic stuff for a Newbe

I'm trying to find out if the powerhead and lower unit on my Force 1991 35hp are interchangable with 40/50 hp engines of the same vintage.
I come across a lot of parts on Ebay for 40 and 50 hp engines and sometimes wonder if it's possible to bolt these on and upgrade my engine. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

My experience with e bay is that these guys seem to bid way high. Then you must also pay shipping. Until you know what various parts are worth, don't get caught up in bidding frenzy.

A better idea is to go around to local marinas and look for junker engines, then compare parts. Most times the marina does not want to bother with old engines (especially Chrysler/Force) and will sell them cheap. I usually get 35hp on down engines for 50-100 bucks, and sometimes they only need minor repairs to run.

Welcome to iboats. :)

Yes. But it wouldn't be an upgrade. They're no different.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.
I guess I didn't really mean "upgrade". I was just wondering if I could swap out my powerhead and turn my 35hp into a 40/50hp.
From the pictures I've seen and the info I've been able to gather, they sure look like they would be interchangable.
Frank, I agree that it can be too easy to get caught up in the Ebay thing. But I live in a place where it's nearly impossible to find parts or a mechanic for outboard motors. I have to drive nearly 50 miles just to get my boat on the water at my favorite fishing hole and there is no marina there.
I have the Force as well as 3 Evinrudes and Ebay has been about my only source.
