Re: Solve this overheat mystery, I will send you a beer!

I had a overheating warning problem once on my 25 bigfoot that baffalled me. It was an intermitent warning sound of overheating I would shut off and restart the engine and the horn would go off for awhile and then come on randomly.

My problem was one the other or both of two fixes. The negative lead on the starter was loose as well as their was a connector that was touching the oil filter looked like it could short when filter got hot. Anyway I tightened the loose ground on starter and bent the connector away and one of those two fixes did the trick.

I would have never guessed that his was the problem I was chassing all the probables like yourself and happened to stumble into this. Did'nt think that these were going to fix the problem but it did.

Good Luck...

OK gang. How frickin' wierd is this, and not unlike the post from flexon. I measured the compressoin and found all cyls to be with 0.5 PSI of each other. No problem with compression. While I was doing this I decided to change all the plugs. This is a 96 with 320 hours and these were the original plugs! They were all evenly worn but very gooy, moderate build up. New plugs and now the overheat alarm never went off no matter what speed, etc. WHAT!?

Are the new plugs same as the old ones? Sounds weird...

I thought I had the beer in the bank....Well, be glad it's just the spark plugs. Chalk it up to good boat karma. When you're out next time and somebody needs a hand, lend it and the boating gods will look kinkly upon you and give you another dose of good boating karma.

Hey CPA, I liked your first version best, but I do agree with the karma thought. I send it out all the time, more and more folks seem to be more and more mistrusting and are blind to it. SAD.

Hey Chuck, remember, this is a BOAT. So untill I run some more lake time I presently remain somewhat "mistrustful"! I sure have learned alot! I still find this a bit wierd with the spark plug issue, but they were NINE years old. Hmmmmm...

AND, if this recurrs I WILL send that beer to whoever solves the mystery of the overheat!

Chris
