Soft spots on front deck.

I have a 1978 Trojan F32, I just uncovered it and plan on putting it in the water. I had a few small soft spots on the front deck and I guess over the winter they got larger. So after doing some checking around it looks like the whole front deck if soft. What can be done as a quick fix or tempory fix?

Wouldn't you rather fix it the right way and be done with it?

Post some pics of your boat so we can see what you have to work with.

cut a piece of plywood, cover it with carpet and put that down.

Post some pics of your boat so we can see what you have to work with.

My 1st choice would be to fix it right and just get it done, I am however under the gun here. I want to try and do a quick fix so I can get some use out of the boat. This will have to be a end of the season or next owner repair.

I believe that she's a 32 foot Flybridge... correct??? When you say the top deck, where exactly do you mean soft spots? As previously stated Pics really help us to help you since we can't see what you see without them.

I'll get some pics up in a few days, yes you have the correct boat. I'm talking about the deck on the bow, from where the cabin dips down then moving forward, so the section in question is about 8 feet side to side and 6 feet forward with a hatch in the middle of it. I know these aren't the best pics to show the problem but this is the boat I'm talking about.

We have a really good Big Boat guy here on the forum that goes by Yacht Dr. I'm sure he'll drop by pretty soon and give you some great advice. Get those pics posted so he can see what you're working with.

Sounds like rot from a leaking hatch.

I can't see a jackleg quick fix happening here.

I think it was more of the fittings that hold the anchor down, I felt it a few years ago and should have attacked it then. So it's been brewing for a few years and to make matters worse the shrink wrap blow off this winter and was left in a ball on the front deck.

So as it turns out, I'm now looking at replacing the whole front deck. Should be a 2 or 3 day job with a cost of around $500 in materials. My nephew has a plan to get it done, the boat yard he works in has done it before and thinks we can do it. We will be cutting just inside the rail and pulling up the deck and all the wet wood that's under it. The bottom layer of glass is solid, so we can glass that over lay down the wood, glass that and then drop the old deck right back on top of it while finishing it off with a new textured paint job. We plan on doing this at the end of the season, so pics will follow.
