soft bulb

Can anyone give me some ideas why the primer
bulb will not firm up and why it sounds like gas is
passing through the carb.
Can not get the motor to idle

If you are saying that you can keep on pumping fuel indefinitely then the float valve in the carb is not closing. Stuck valve, stuck float, defective float, dirt in valve.

If that is the case then the carb will be flooding.

Air trapped in the bulb though will prevent it not feeling really hard even when all else is OK.

if on the other hand you are simply not pumping fuel then maybe the valves in the bulb are defective.

One way to ensure it is not your bulb is disconnect from motor and pump bulb to see if it firms up or stays soft. If it stays soft then it is the valves in the bulb....
