Before the 60's, the boats were built alongside the water and just pushed in:rolleyes:

I'll play.
I've got a 1959 single axle trailer. Don't remember the brand but it's heavily made from round steel pipe.
It's sitting empty on my lot at the moment. She ain't pretty but is 100% roadworthy.....
UPDATE:
Title says it's a 1959 Pacemaker trailer.
Steel, painted a loooong time ago.
Probably freshwater use only- I bought it from a guy whos grandfather had it at a lake house.
GVW 1,500
Here's a pic. Gotta love the home-made bowstop:)

While checking out titles, I realized another trailer I own is also a '59.
This ones been in my family since 1970 and has served many functions- originally it was a 3 rail motorcycle trailer but over time morphed into a boat trailer, snowmobile trailer, landscaping trailer and (currently) a flatbed. I remember re-painting it while in high school, and I sandblasted and renovated it again in '08. At that time I upgraded the springs, rims and tires to haul heavier loads.
Title says it's a Lil' Dude, but the plate says Texas Royal Manufacturing.
Only seen saltwater maybe 2- 3 times.
Titled as 3,000 GVW but I doubt it, even with the upgrades.
One other oddball fact about this one- since '70 I don't recall anyone replacing the hubs/bearings/races on this trailer, just re-packing. I guess routine maintenance really works!

Re: So who has the OLDEST trailer?

I believe this is a 1960 Gator (same year as the boat). The original wheels were red but since the tires were badly dry-rotted, they were replaced with these newer ones. Otherwise, the trailer is all original and functions great. I don't know the specs on it but it is a tilt trailer. I don't use that because the boat just floats off. It has bunks rather than rollers (except for the keel) since it's a wood boat. The "walking board" is just painted yellow like the rest of it and it's slippery as h-ll. I'm going to sacrifice originality and put something
"non-skid" on there for safety.
Verne:)

My eyes aren't what they used to my, but that plate sure looks like the trailer was made in 10-69.

When was the " moulded plywood hull first made ? I had one with a Ford rear axle trailer. Owner said the trailer was made just before WW II.

Mine's not that old but anything that's not aluminum is rusted out of it. I'm pretty sure the wheels are rusted onto the hubs and dread the day I ever get a flat and have to remove it. I might just leave it on the side of the road and head straight to the trailer place to buy another if it happens.

That's what I thought too, until I saw the title. That shows it originally titled from NY back in '59, and I remember when Dad bought it in '70 , it was already well-used. I was just a kid.....

Maybe someone mistyped the title and didn't realize it until it was too late and they were too lazy to fix it. And maybe you got it in later '70 and it had been used for almost 2 years daily. Little used trailers don't age quickly (if kept out of the weather), except for the tires. But if it was used daily and was always out side, it could have lost that new trailer feeling to it.

Re: So who has the OLDEST trailer?

I can beat '59, By just a bit-

This is a 1958 Gator, awaiting restoration-
Gator2.jpg

This is a 1959 Tee Nee, with the restoration ALMOST complete-
0203Assembld.jpg

That will be under my 1959 Lake N Sea, which is currently under restoration-

It looked like this when I started-

I've also got a 1960 Gator, that my 1960 Glasspar Citation sits on. I restored both of them-
SmIMG_3295.jpg

Then, Of course, I had to get a proper tow vehicle. It's a bit newer ('66), But I wanted 'modern' conveniences like power steering-

Re: So who has the OLDEST trailer?

Oh- It's funny that my Glasspar was on that particular trailer, Because I found the original 1960 brochure for Gator trailers, and guess what-
glasgtr.jpg

Yup, that's my boat... See those cool fenders on the trailer? They were an option. Big fiberglass monsters, and uber-cool... They made the trailer a 'Super Gator'. Not many were ordered, and few survived. BUT- I found a set- and will be restoring them and converting my Gator to a super-
