Ive been called single minded as i get so involed in what im doing i pay very little attention to the mess im making around me while doing it. my work is always perfectly neat like the one on the left but the tools used to do the work would be laying in a messy pile all over the dock like the one on the right.

I'm too neat to leave the mess on the right and too lazy to do the coil on the felt. So I usually run the spare line back to the cleat on the boat, and back to the dock if necessary.

I'm neither. I have loops on both ends of my ropes. Thru and back over top, both ends.
