Air is actually a better than Foam as it is far Lighter, and was used for years, in Glass boats
Unfortunately we saw how well that worked so now we have foam. I can remember back seeing a hollow core boat sink from damage ( drunk driver) you could tell where the boat was from the continous flow of air bubbles.....

Yeah, but it doesn’t add anything structurally, and if you only have one compartment, it only takes one hole to take you down. Glass boats were designed with multiple sealed compartments.

this would have been a lot easier if I had realized the existence of the long skinny bolts hidden underneath the front motor mounts.

We had one with Air Chambers.
