Re: Snowmobile boating

If I'm not mistaken, this little trick was discovered by a guy who did it accidentally. He found himself over water unintentionally, and had no choice but to keep going. There is a video about it somewhere & I'm thinking I might have seen it on youtube.

I'm glad that the not so successful attempts are being posted too - that might keep a lot of idiots from trying the "water sled" thing.

Re: Snowmobile boating

People have been doing that for some time. They say its like being on powder snow. Dont get me wrong its not my cup of tea. If you were to go into the water with out help i would guess you would have less than 20 minuets to live due to the cold.

Re: Snowmobile boating

Some people will go a long way over water on a snow machine, but at a fair risk. Not to highjack the thread, but attached picture might be relate and I'm testing my ability to follow instructions for posting a picture.

Dovekie, if you edit your post and put
immediately after it, it should show up as a pic - no spaces inbetween.

What works really well are the powder sleds with the parabolic front skies and the 2 1/2 ripsaw tracks......hmm...:p..i must speak from experience...Many people have no problem bondockin' over a pond, yet they get scarred to go across the lake's and they get "throttle" twitch.......My friend always taught me.."When i doubt, throttle out"....

Those machines must be doing 80+ mph . We have the odd nutcase here on the lakes in late winter just as the ice is going out. I guess as long as you keep the speed up and maintain balance everything is OK, but every year the fire department ends up having to rescue several "adventurers" from the icy water. In fact, without a floating survival suit, you have about 3 minutes in the water before you become immobilized by the extreme cold.

I like crazy stuff like that, so this is not a commentary, but just for fun . . . how many different laws/statutes/ordinances/coast guard regulations are being broken?

I'm starting with no life jacket (1)
Non-marine rated fuel lines (2)

At least they stayed inside the channel markers!

Could you imagine the reaction of a trawler captain being passed by a SNOWMOBILE?
Wonder if that's ever happened?

Maybe I should trade in my Sea-Doo for a Ski-Doo. Looks like they work just as well- as long as the engine doesn't hiccup.

Yeah, saw that too . . . it's what made me think of a local lake cop writing them up. He'd need a fresh ticket pad. :D

We've run open water quite a few times. Kinda freaky at first but after the rush is over its like, eh.. something to show off with. You have to hit it at the right speed though. Too fast and the skis will skip from side to side and you'll flip, too slow and wel.... you can figure it out. Seen a few guys drop their sleds through gettin scared on the water of thin ice.
