Think we've seen the end of the never ending snow storms that has hit the NE this winter?

Re: Snow....

Just think how bad it would be if we didn't have global warming. Huh?

I am thankful for it.............. right now it is -6 degrees and w/o warming I shudder to think if my outdoor thermometer could register that low!! ;)

My boat is in the left side of that garage and that snow pile is over 25 feet long !! :(

I dunno, it's pretty early yet... But by the time March turns into May, I'm sure the weather will be better and we can dig our boats out.

I'm optimistically saying we're done with the white stuff here in south central PA. 10 forecast looks to be mostly uppers 40s and 50s. Soon as I finish painting the room I'm working on, the boat is coming home from storage and some upgrades will be made.

Re: Snow....

As we get closer to spring it just means that it will be warm in between snow storms instead of cold. I'd say 2 more storms this month and possibility of a freak storm late in the month or even early April.

Boyd lake is probably going to be open by the weekend, Chatfield already has the docks in and will open soon too.

With an increase in air temperature comes an increased capacity to hold moisture:eek:

Even at only 1 or 2 degrees above normal, the amount of moisture the atmosphere can pick up is enormus when you consider the size of the atmosphere.

Then that air (with a larger amount of moisture than normal) travels north and dumps it on you as snow:D

personally I hope it hurries up and happens Global warm is the norm. just think year round boating, and I won't have to buy a place near the water, when the glaciers melt the shoreline will come to me;)

I just went by Chatfield yesterday and its still mostly frozen over but the Marina area is clear, the gravel pit lake just north of Chatfield is almost completely ice free, I guess I need to get everything ready for the spring oil changes!!WOOOHOOOO

I'm supposed to get snow tonight and monday night so I guess I leave the antifreeze in the motor, Nice to talk about getting ready though, have you heard anything about the proposed raising of Chatfield?

Re: Snow....

I'm looking at about 70 more days of possible snow.

On the brighter side, there's little frost in the ground. If the weather co-operates we'll have a good maple syrup season.

Re: Snow....

Right there with ya. As you, we had a bunch of snow b/4 the ground had time to freeze. No worries about water or septic systems freezing this year. They're talking a possible snow storm starting early next week. Should go thru you and "hopefully" head up to us.

Boating is not even on the radar yet....... Hopefully in another month we can "start" thinking about it.

Re: Snow....

actually global warming is the reason New England had more snow, and its relatively easy to figure out. due to warmer weather around the world there is humidity in the air than normal. this humidity leads to rain, or in colder climates snow. so yes the weather is hotter in the summer, and it snows more in the winter. for me its kinda win win. I snowboard, and this year has been amazing. so much fresh snow!!! but this also means the warm weather comes alil quicker.

This whole global warming thing is screwy. I mean who knows whats gonna happen. media plays it down. scientists are outright terrified. and me im just having a blast with whatever mother nature throws my way. :) in the mean time i do my part to help cut down on my environmental footprint but thats another thread, and another day.

in the mean time im still dreaming boat season because warm weather is best, snowboarding just gives me something to do in the winter.

No, not really. I'm on the north end and don't get down there very often anymore, only fished the ice once on chatty this year.
My little fishing boat just requires me to bolt on the old outboard and fill the tank, oh and plan to avoid the wakeboarders.

Re: Snow....

If I unload the boat onto the ice and get behind the helm, does that constitute boating (even if I am leaning over at 45* angle)?

You could put training skis on each side and raise a mast and sail!

Just saying, it could work, remember to bring along the ice auger if your going fishing.

Re: Snow....

Well as you recall, we had a bit of a 'freak' snowstorm here a week or so ago that left us with several inches of the devil water. ;)
Fortunately we are getting back to some normalcy and it's all gone. Now, I can get back to some of the targeted outdoor projects like seeding the lawn, putzing my new/old truck,...the usual.:)
That said....knock on wood that we so see anymore this year.
All Good
BP:)
