Smoked Electric fuel pump

Hi, I have a 1996-7, 262 Magnum EFI Gen+ Alpha 1, s/n OF803868. Had the boat out on its maiden voyage, after an hr or so I started just idling around for awhile when suddenly it died. After 10 minutes it started and ran fine for another 1/2 hr and died again, I checked all that I could the motor felt warm but not hot, gauge read normal. So after 10 minutes I restarted it, it ran for 10 seconds and died again but this time the ignition was dead, found a burned fuse, replaced it , started it again and noticed smoke billowing from the fuel pump. The top of the pump is blistered but the wire harness to it looks ok. I googled the part #on the pump #8358261 and found it but it said it was for an OMC or volvo, the one for the 4.3L EFI looks the same but for the MAGNUM it is differant and much more $. Could that be the problem or could thier be something else that I need to check out before replacing ? any help would be appreciated, Thank you, Gordie.
