Can everyone that has smart tabs post pics of how they have them installed? I will post mine when I get off work but I am pretty sure my set up is not going to work. I have a 2004 Q4 SF, and I installed them differently than the Q4's I have seen(only 2). Thanks

Ok here are the pics of how I installed them. My transducer was in a bad spot so the "typical" install I saw would have required me to completely re-run the cables.DSC00163.jpg

I don't see why that install shouldn't work just fine. Have you tried them out yet?

Never mind. I see by your other post that you have tried them out. If you increase the angle by pinning the actuator to a closer hole, this should help with the porpoising.

One problem that I see is that by mounting the bottom bracket the way you did, it may have increased the angle that the tab was supposed to hang at naturally. If the bracket is mounted vertically and left to hang, this is the recommended starting angle. I would try increasing and decreasing the angle of the tab and see what happens.

Actually I haven't tried them yet, was going to do it today but the wife had other plans. I tried to get the angle as close as possible. Right now I have the actuator in hole 4, so I am hoping I left enough room for adjustment. I haven't seen anyone else install them this way on a Q4 so hopefully it all works out. Will probably be next weekend before I can get out on the lake again though because of work.

Yesterday I took the boat out with some wrenches for adjustment, after various testing, I've found that in my case, hole #4 was the best hole for me.

Re: Smart Tab Install Pics

I installed them on our Q4 SF this weekend and the install was a breeze. Sorry I don't have a pic to show for it yet or any results, but wanted to post to let people who are squeemish about installs to go for it.

Just need to install new tie-down points now. I have boat buckles to install so a new hole should be all that's needed.

Would you mind posting up a pic when you get a chance?

Won't be until early next week or later. It's in the garage and can't get far enough behind it to take decent pics until she ventures outdoors.

Took the boat out on saturday and man what a difference. I gained about 4mph on the top end, planing was about 3 seconds or so faster and the bow rise was almost non-existent. The low speed wander was reduced too which made trailoring it a lot easier. Only downside was I took it to a new lake that was horrible!

Looks like I'm going to have to move mine out a bit more to get the max performance out of mine after speaking with Gregg from Nauticus.

Tunnel,

Have you taken any photos of your install that you can post? I just bought a set an I'm eager to install, but I want to make sure I get them in the best positions.

I didn't use anything special. I have since replaced the nylon bolts that came with them with some stainless ones with self locking nuts after I lost a bolt in the lake.

Re: Smart Tab Install Pics

Josh, I like your placement as it think it would be more beneficial out there. I do have one concern though and hope that anybody can give advice for. The transom is obviously more solid to mount but does anyone think the extra "pods" on the rear of the q4 will crack from the pressure applied by the tabs? I don't know how thick they are and can't get an answer from tracker as to their thoughts. Did you use any different screws Josh and how deep did you drill and did you go into the cavity inside? Any advice is greatly appreciated as I'm keen to fit some to my 2006 q4 sf. Cheers Geoff (Whitey72) from Australia.
