Skeg Repair with JB Weld

I've got an old mid-80s Johnson that I have up and running fairly well - still some tinkering left to do on it. I went out for a run in it tonight to celebrate sorting out all the issues with it.....and while backing up, nailed a rock, and broke about half the skeg off (about a 2" x 3" piece). :scared::scared::scared:

I've recovered the broken piece. I don't want to spend a bunch of money on this motor, as I have maybe $90 into it, but at the same time, now that it's running, it's worth getting it repaired.

Can I glue the old piece back on with JB Weld, or do I have to get this professionally welded?

JB won't cut it in my opinion. You will end up losing the piece.

Spend the $30 to have it welded

Well it's in the shop. Estimate is $80 to $100 for a proper repair.

I think that will be money well spend. JB weld is some great stuff. But it too has its limitations and I wouldn't trust it for a skeg repair like yours. JMHO

Good advice, but I've just got a call that the repair is complete.
