Run and hide, you want no part of that boat.

Not a fan of running older "out of business outdrives", and that seems to be what the guy is offering. While it may run today, guess what so does yours, and it isnt an OMC. Sit tight and keep looking, the deals will pop up and the season nears the end, you have a nice running boat and you know what and how to keep it running. That OMC is not going to be sellable when you try to get rid of it, stick with known equipment, and have fun running your boat the rest of the season.

Re: Should I trade??

I ended up telling the guy today that i just didnt think it was the right trade for me.. after all the pondering i have done in the last day and half has made me realize how much a love my little boat lol I know it inside and out now and am proud of it even know its not all that much to look at (yet).. I still plan on repainting the whole boat next winter when i cant use it.. If anything I'll probably just pick pick up another project boat with cash in the winter and start working on it and just keep my little guy around for when i want to hit the smaller lakes in my area.

The funny thing is that when i originally read the add I thought the the OMC outdrive would be a good thing lol just shows how little i know about boats so far.. I think I need to learn a little more before i start getting into things that i dont know enough about.

Tahnks again for all your knowledge and help.. you guys truly are the best!

DONT PAINT IT! She just needs some rubbing. Sometimes the ladies just need a good massage with some 3M Finesse-It Marine to make them shine.

Good plan ... run yours a little longer. In the meantime, window shop with no intention to buy. That'll help you figure out what you're looking for in your next boat. Maybe even look at some of the new stuff that's out there and visit the dealerships. You may find that you're willing to put it off another couple years, save up some extra money and get something you really didn't expect that you'd be looking for.

Enjoy the boat ... it's cool looking.

well i did try some generic de oxidizer and a polish.. didnt really seem to do much.. made it a little bit better where i tried it.. but to be honest i dont think ive really given it an honest effort yet lol I am going to pick up some of this finesse-it marine you're talking about this weekend.. maybe that'll be good. Do i need to use an electric buffer you think? or just some good old fashion elbow grease?

Re: Should I trade??

thanks for the reply southkog.. that exactly what i plan to do.. I figure if I am patient enough something really nice will come my way.. even if that means saving my cash for a couple of years and getting something newer from the dealership... or maybe another old gem will come my way in a few months that i can fix up into something really nice.. either way I am happy with the old gal that i have now.. she serves her purpose well :)

Thanks again to everyone!

Harbor Freight has a variable speed buffer that works well, its on sale on a regular basis for 30 bucks (USD)
