I have a 1989 20' Sportcraft Center Console Openfish. The boat came with an OMC Seadrive. Yes I know everyone I speak to says that engine and setup is horrible and that its problematic. However, I personally have not had any major issues with the boat. I am the second owner and have had it for about 12-13 years and been running great except for minor normal wear and tear stuff. Anyways, recently I was at a sandbar and didnt realize my engine had become incased in the sand by the tide going down. I tried pushing the boat out and raising the engine. After several attempts of raising and lowering the engine it finally came loose. However, the engine would not go down or up once I got into deeper water and at the same time it began shocking me everytime I would hold the throttle controller/binnacle. The binnacle controller finally started working again but would continously run and shut off the engine tilt motor. I could both hear and see it raising and lowering the engine at random. I finally made it to the dock and got the boat out of the water. Now, the engine will not go down. Anyone have a suggestion as to what might be the cause (other than me not having watched the tide). Could it be the engine tilt motor that is almost 20 years old or could it be binnacle controller or relays? Any suggestions might help dont really know where to start. Sorry for the long post.
