Shifts extremely difficult

I have a 1992 Harris FlotDek and when the boat is running extremely difficult to shift in and out of gear after awhile. Little stiff at start
Shifts fine when engine off

Have no idea what a 1992 Harris FlotDek is but a engine and outdrive type would be helpful
