I have a 1974 searay with the mercruiser 250ci inline 6. Took it out for the first time yesterday and when leaving the dock, it would no longer shift into forward. Only reverse and neutral. With a little adjustment i can get it into both gears now, but when you spin the prop backwards when in either gear, the ratcheting isn't the same in forward as it is in reverse. Lastly i change the water pump in the lower unit recently and didn't have the control in forward when removing the lower unit. Is it possible the intermediate shift shaft is 180 degrees from where it should be? It seemed like it would fall in either way when putting the lower unit back on. Thanks for the help.
