120 hp 90 o Evinrude, gear shifting is very very hard to do, in & out of forward & reverse, Boat is a 1972 Anacarpi center console. the motor is is mounted on 2 ft extension.

Disconnect the shift linkage from the engine, then shift the engine by hand via the engine's shift linkage. This will tell you where the problem lies.... with the engine or with the remote control unit.
