Hello. I am putting a 2004 merc 25 4stroke on my 18 ft pontoon replacing a 1991 two stroke johnson
motor so all the cables are old. Is this a job for a do it yourself or should I
enlist professional help. I am located in the boonies so it is hard to get to
a dealer. Thanks for any help. vol

I have re-powered two boats and it is a relatively easy job.

Thank you for your replies. by mercury controls do you mean new cables or
just the attachments that connect the motor to the cable. thanks again Vol

Re: shift throttle controls

mercury and johnson controls are not compatible, the cables are different, the throw of the cables are different lengths. the wiring harness are totally different.

Re: shift throttle controls

Thanks for the replies. they really help. I looked at teleflex controls but they
are no specific to any particular engine. they did no have a mercury connecting
kit. also the only wiring harness is for the tach with five wires for a merc. Is this
what you were referring to? where would i find a merc kit? thanks again Vol
