Hi I have a 1997 johnson 60hp and am trying replace impeller
Cant see how to disconnect shift shaft to remove lower unit
I can only get the gear case 1/2 inch seperated and thats in full reverse on shifter
sending out an SOS

On the stbd side of your mtr where the shift arm goes to the upper shift linkage for the g/c look for a cir pin in that shaft. Pull it out and slide the shift arm to port. This should disconnect the upper linkeage. Also check shop.evinrude .com for parts diagrams. Would recommend getting an OMC factory manual if you're going to do this work yourself !

thanks I saw the pin you referred to
I will let you know how I do.
I have done impellers on mercs and force outboards
This one had me stumped

I am doing mine right now. Takes a little jiglin and pushing but it will come off with patience
