Johnson. 40. 2 STk. (2004) where do you disconnect it when removing the lower end?

The shift linkage is located under the carb. There is a screw that goes through the linkage and the shift rod. Difficult to see but look under the carb from the port side and you should see it.

i'm at work now ....but do i have to remove front cover to get at it? should it be in forword or rev when removing it?
