that is correct.

So, shims go back, and no sealer on the outdrive to the bell housing (where it connects to the boat). And.. my lower has a lot of pry marks on it now.. I thought about putting a light coat of (something stick) on it when I put it back to the upper. I KNOW it's not going to be water tight now.

I used a loctite product for the outdrive to bellhousing. It is really sticky, but doesnt dry completely. It is aviation form a gasket. It looks like tar. Dont worry to much about the pry marks. The upper to lower surfaces dont have to be water tight. I wouldnt use sealer if i didnt have to. Cause sooner or later the crap will probably have to come off for some reason.

Okay, that's a good idea..
Thanks again for all your help, really made it easy on me. I'm out of projects on the boat until the parts all get here.. :)

(screaming) I can not find the o rings parts number for the bearing housing. I need the 3 thick ones, and the one thin (but larger round) that goes on the bottom. Does anyone know these parts number? Please share if you do. Thanks. (the o-rings that go on the part in the pic above on the right hand side) I THINK the 3 thick ones are 318717 bur not sure.

I dont know if you are getting these or not, but you will more than likely need 23,63,46,75x2, and 47. Possibly #76 also. Price wise you maybe better off getting a seal kit.

Hey Idlespeedonly, 46, and 47 is coming with part 45. (ordered that from another place before I found this one) 47 is actually sealed in the cover housing. The wiper on top you have to press in. Yep, got all the other ones you mentioned, but it only came to about half the price of a seal kit. I have to call them tomorrow because I noticed tonight that the parts are for a 1992, I have an 1989, and not sure if they are the same or not. When I try to look up 1989, it asks for a model number, non of what I know. (the numbers they have do not match my plate mod number on my outdrive.

These are the numbers and I have no clue what one is mine. mine is 9856B5 4.3

I sure would replace 46 and 47. They could have damaged the when they removed the shift shaft very easily. The wiper doesnt press in either.
