I'm in the process of changing my gimbal housing, transom plate, and engine. The boat is a '74 powered (well not yet) by a 250 inline 6 w/ alpha gen 1. I'm replacing the old pre-alpha/MR housing for a gen 1. So far I have the housing in and sealed, but am stuck when it comes to the shift and switch assembly. The old inner transom plate had the trim accuator, switch, and shift plate mounted directly to it. The newer style does not have mounting holes to bolt any of these to. I have all of the old parts and was hoping to still use them as they all still worked. Is there something I can modify to use them, or do I have to buy all new parts. If new parts are needed, what exactly do I need to get.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Shift Plate Kit/Switch Plate Kit HELP!!!!

I've been trying to figure this out, since I am trying to get back on the water as soon as possible. I found this thread, and links withing the thread http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=545377
Is there a template on where to mount these two switches and shift plate assemblies? It seems like I am going to have to buy a new shift plate, but not sure if I can use the trim accuator reverse lock (not sure if I have the right terminology).

Re: Shift Plate Kit/Switch Plate Kit HELP!!!!

I went to the local marine store, who told me I needed a new shift plate 864363A1. They were not sure how to install it or what else I needed. As you can see in the pictures, there are 2 places that can fit cables, but the plate also came with this elongated shaft, which is spring loaded. I'm not sure where this goes, or which shift cable goes where. Please help!!!

The instructions given are vague and do not have any illustrations. Evern if someone has a picture of how they installed theirs or how it is installed on their boat would be helpful.

That elongated spring loaded thing is a shift assister, and you don't need to use it... It's mainly for the MPI engines that don't completely kill the engine when the shift interrupt switch is tripped.

With the inline engines the shift plate is mounted o the rocker cover... That might be the best option you have...

I mounted the shift plate directly to the transom, just above the inner transom plate, connected the shift cables without the spring loaded assister and tested the controls. All seems ok and the shifter arm on the housing moves as it should. The true test will be when the motor is in and fully adjusted.
