Shift cable on Mercruiser

Can any one tell me how to remove the shift cable end on a 140 Mercruiser shft cable,the end next to the transom plate, the book says it has two set screws but the one I have has two little square pin looking things in it. Thanks for any replies.

if you are talking about the shift cable that runs to the bell housing .the two square head srews are the set screws just loosen these in some cases you will have to remove them completly.this done easily if cable is removed from shift plate.if this is the original cable there will be a stianless steal sleave over the core wire.hope this helps. are you replacing cable if so follow original cable routing

Thanks, The two little square pins are the set screws just as you said ,I never have seen set screws with that kind of head,got it changed tonight.
