Re: Sexually Ambiguous Cartoon Characters

If people would just shut up about what they do in the bedroom, then there would be no controversy would there.. This goes for homo's and hetero's alike...

I always had my suspicions about Spongebob and Patrick... possibly even Squidward too. No worries about Mr. Krabs though... he's a got a daughter and even dated(a female character) on one episode.

Sounds to me like more locker room heterophobic trash.

Re: Sexually Ambiguous Cartoon Characters

I should clarify that only the Spongebob and Bugs Bunny comments were attributed to Dobson. The newspaper dug up the other stuff from other sources - trying to be funny, I guess. The article was clear about this, my post wasn't. Sorry for any confusion. Also, the Star-Telegram isn't as liberal as a lot of newspapers, maybe a little to the left of the Dallas Morning News, which IMHO lists pretty hard to starboard on most issues.

Far as Dobson himself goes, the man's willing to take a stand on what he believes, even when it's sure to subject him to ridicule, and ya gotta respect that. But you'd hope a guy could find more substantive material than a cartoon sponge. Kind of robs him of credibility in my mind.

Only one that really gives me grief is the teletubby one; those characters represent 1 or 2 year old children, and I think it's just sick to ascribe any sexuality at all to them. But I guess Falwell pretty much ruled himself out as any kind of leader.

wait, I just remembered: anybody see that "spongeworthy" episode of Seinfeld? maybe spongebob is gettin a little action after all... ;)

from the horse's mouth:
"My brief comments at the FRC gathering were intended to express concern not about SpongeBob or Big Bird or any of their other cartoon friends, but about the way in which those childhood symbols are apparently being hijacked to promote an agenda that involves teaching homosexual propaganda to children."

Sexual orentation isn't the only thing. Have you seen Disney's "Finding Nemo"? If that turtle isn't a stoner...

I think he has a point. But I think he's way overestimating the effect the silliness of a cartoon has on us. I mean it's not like I'm going around dropping Anvils on people now that I'm an adult after repeated exposure to Roadrunner cartoons as a child. But then, I do speak fluent Spanish thanks to Speedy Gonzalez. ;)

teaching homosexual propaganda? from what i've read, they put together a show with all the popular cartoons to simply teach tolerance. yes, that includes sexual orientation, but plenty of other differences as well.

i'll admit- my daughter loves sesame street and barney, and i find myself watching these shows with her all the time. they are great. not just humorous cartoons- evey show teaches valuable lessons. i'm glad see spends some free time watching and hopefully learning these lessons.

i'll be sure she gets to watch this program when it's released.

Y'all go on ahead and have fun with this all you want, but Dobson is a man of more integrity than can be found in any hundred newspaper writers. His rebuttal says what needs to be said. (Once again the cartoon is not the problem, guys, it is WHO is behind it trying to craftily use it for ulterior motives)

No, make that a THOUSAND newspaper writers....

What I want to know is why is the focus on Dobson and not the idiot writers who deliberately took him out of context. They are nothing more than cheap liars trying any way they can to get more readers. Nothing but cheap wh*res in my opinion.

Holy Dynamic Duo Gibletts! That is hysterical! Is it real or just a very good fake? At any rate, it makes for some super silly innuendo.

Just one of the many techniques used by the Liberals, BCP. Taint nothin new here. When their agenda has been exposed for what it is, they cannot come out and admit it. Hardly anyone would stand for it. Sooooooooo, the only thing to do is to vilify the messenger.

That technique, I might add, has carried right down to the rank and file.

On the contrary WBW, your example is irrelevant. While nobody but the criminally insane would seriously consider doing something as wacked out as dropping an anvil on your head, there are many who may be influenced by suggestion. In your anvil example, even young children can appreciate that an anvil will do serious and permanent injury regardless of the fact that it doesn't appear to in the cartoon.

The subject discussed here is the employment of a subtle and underhanded methodology. Dobson's point is the characters are being used to shape the minds of children who are too innocent to realize what is really going on. There is no way to determine how many, or who, have been or will be affected by actions like this.

I assert that many, possibly yourself included, have been, and, would again be among the first to cry foul if propaganda efforts by the government employed these same techniques.

Are we talking sexual molestation or just molestation? If sexual ,the numbers seem to depend on the source. In any case ,I personally would hardly classify one as straight(hetrosexual)if they fancied sexual molestation of children.I call them (its).

While Dodsen may be well respected in his field, one could other examples of such idiots...most recently they gave Al Gore - self proclaimed inventor of the internet - a Nobel prize. Give me a break.
Ted Kennedy, well respected Senator, mastered the art of getting away with murder and drunk driving.
Barbara Streisand, well respected performer hates Capitalism so much she charges $500 a seat for her shows.
Everyone thoought the world was round at one time.
Christopher Columbus thought the world was square and was sure he found India when he landed in the Americas.
Seen any well respected idiots with an firm opinion that carry a gun and a badge?

Geez. Next thing you know someone is going to say that Buck Henry and Mel Brooks have issues!
