I have a 25 HP Merc. won't start after 1+ yrs. of sitting. / Was told it was serviced and seems to be so Machine is clean & a service sticker from Co. on hood. Now could of been sitting a touch more however have not contacted service provider yet to see last time was serviced. turn's over & water starts to run out while turning over. However, doesn't fire. & It turns over with run switch on or off. However, either way does not fire. will be calling service Co. for last date serviced. Have not chk. for spark yet. doing this today!

Spark, compression, and fuel are all you need. If it was sitting for 1+ years, it may need a good carb cleaning if they was fuel left in the system when it was put away.

Yep, seem to be but didn't have to do a carb `cleaning got a can of carb cleaning spray 3 squirts is all she took & fired right up / one thing though from sitting got a bit of rust in water when running I guess with doing this in a 55gallon drum & a good day out on lake will clean her out / Thanks for the help!(y)

Check for spark quickly and make sure you prime it with fuel. I’d even open the carb drain screw and prime it to flush fuel through the carb. Choke on and open the throttle. If they’re still no sign of life or even a sputter, back to spark. 9/10 times these things don’t fire is usually fuel or carb related.

"after 1+ years of sitting" . . .

My first thing to check/resolve would be the fuel system. 'Servicing' would not necessarily make the fuel system protected for a long layup.

So, the fact that the engine was 'serviced' (what ever that means :D ) has little to do with the fuel system protection for issues due to for long term storage.

Serviced> Thoroughly tested & checked over by a licensed repair mercury mechanic specialist prior to winter storage.

2 strk/4strk? Mercury/Tohatsu made? Step by step starting procedure?
2strk 1/4 choke primed tank/fuel bulb, electric start// however found that, "filter case" was loose sucking air & leaking fuel after tightened & allowed to sit did stated steps over & fired right up just need to change impeller due to rust accumulation noted in water tank. However, engine ran like a pro not skips or miss's ran smooth neutral, forward & reverse! & did give it a couple squirts of carb cleaner

You mean there was rust in a water tank you had her sat in to run ?
