Hello, just purchased a 1985 mercury 115 hp 6 cyl and asking what is a good service manual for it ? Also looks like its leaking along the throttle linkage that connects the carbs, any pointers?

Those Il6 motors have a small rubber hose from the lower part of the crankcase to the upper main bearing. They recirculate oil. You might see if that is the leaker. They also have balance hoses on the starboard side of the block. They can leak fuel as well.

Try to get a Mercury Service Manual. The aftermarket ones can have some serious errors in them.

If the leakage comes from the throttle plates in the center of the carbs, the floats are likely not sealing properly, allowing fuel to leak into the throats. The carbs would need to be cleaned and rebuilt with new gaskets, floats and inlet needles and seats.

I could get a manual if there was a serial/model # tag on transom mount. I looked inside and out. I took pics if that does anything.

Look for a silver welch plug on the block. Those often have serial numbers. The block number located about 1/2 way up the transfer cover side can help pinpoint it as well.

The maxrules site will give you a list of serial numbers for your year motor. Does that work?

Thank you for your replies, I need to get a manual to dig into my issue. It's not a major one. I'm hoping there is a serial # on the title which I should get in the next couple days.

Compression test / complete inspection to be done before spending any beer tokens on it.----Make sure you install a new impeller before launching the boat.
