Mercurier, 5.7L boat is 1987, but have thought engine may have been changed. best I can read on tap is ser# 8741607. Standing on my head to read this the 8 looked like a "B" don't know if ser. #'s start with an alph designation. Took Pic with phone and after 10 ties best i could get is this. I just rechecked, and your serial number doesn't actually say it was a 5.7, the 260 could also be a 5.0L engine with a 4bbl.

Would have to check the GM block numbers to find out, or this bulletin with some other Merc numbers.

That engine is a 5.7 with a 4bbl.

In that year Merc only produced the 350 with a 4 bbl. The 305 (5 litre) did come out with either a 2 bbl or a 4bbl, but they were 200hp and 230hp respectively. The only 260hp was the 5.7 with a 4bbl....

Exactly what I thought at first. Then I seen this in the dealer program.

No, I can not find mention of it in the service manuals either.

Thanks for the input, I sent an e-mail to Mercury inquiries with the same question as I also noted the 305 V8 and Mercury did confirm by thier records for the serial number it is a 1987, 350 V8 with 4 bbl carb. 260hp. I even gave them the boat HIN# make and model.

Hey Don.. .I looked at my dealer program and it does not agree with yours. I suspect that you have a typo. :D.... I'd post a picture of mine, but I'm behind a proxy sever and it doesn't allow picture posting.... Sorry.

That's good to hear. It was probably just a typo in the program I have. Wouldn't be the first mistake I found in it.

He's not looking for a carb, or parts for it, he's looking for positive ID of his engine.

Re: Serial number wonder what I have.

Once again thanks again for everyone pitching in, I am buying two new risers for one engine as the galleries are solid with crap and have an overheat. When looking at parts lists getting a few different things showing up. So I took the serial number to be sure of things then became unsure of things as the number tag did not have an "O" prefix to the B741607 (thanks Don for fixing that up for me). Then I also noted the call up of 305 in one list. I have an Alpha outdrive again confusing as I am told it was right at the switch over year to bravo. I got a number for the riser then found it has been superseded 3 times now in hopes that what comes in is the right one, 807988A2. I found you really need to be careful and must say this is one place that sure helps.
Other thing is this boat has been around and no knowing what has been revised.
