I have a Mercury 50 with a shown serial number of A104245 but no one can identify anything. I am trying to figure out exactly what the motor is and how to get parts for it.
Thanks

Welcome to iboats.

Gonna need a little more info.
3 cylinder, or 4 cylinder?

Colors of stripes on top cowl? brown, blue, silver, black ?

Could the "A" be a "9" ?

Does it say 50, "classic", or "classic 45" ?

Or "500" ?

When I searched that serial number it comes up as a 1985 Mariner 50hp motor.

Says Mariner 50 - stripes are orange red and yellow - has 4 spark plugs and I am in TX - title says it is 1986. The A is definitely an A. Thanks for your help

I get 1984.
Definitely a year that they switched the serial number system.

Chances are the 2 model years are almost identical.
Most stores or websites will not have it listed as a 1984 model, but carefully comparing part numbers should get you what you need.
