What???????????????????????????????????????????????????

For what it's worth, had I run across the c list add, I would have flagged it.

You've got a long road ahead of you, treat this attempt as a learning experience. Speaking of learning, do they not give SOL tests in RI?

Does this sound familiar SBL?

wow wish i saw that pic when i started the resto theres now way i can take it all out and restart. if i had the money and time i would but i don't. i just put another piece of the deck in with the braces for the seats in between the ribs. kinda mad at my self for not seeing that pic so of the stringers at first that would have bin easier and better than what i am doing.

no i put brand new fiberglassed plywood in for the deck. I got rid of the old. .

I'm sorry, but that doesn't look like brand new plywood to me. I do see new plywood under the enclosed bow area, but that's the only place.

Re: sell it or keep it?

ya who ever posted that is a douche thanks a lot doensn't matter to me. i'm going to work on the motor make it work again put it back on the boat take if for a ride make sure every thing works and then sell it an i will be able to take them for a test drive. you can't say that the boat is a death trap if it works great and nothings wrong with it. you guys gave great advise on putting the deck in but after i was already told to make ribs for the boat and the ribs work great.

Actually the person who posted it is being the better person if you ask me. It would be one thing if you were selling it as a project boat but you're not. They can't see the damage that is done to your boat and therefor you're going to try to con whoever. Hopefully no young kid like yourself sees this and tries to buy it. Man up SBL and admit your wrong doings, take this as a learning experience and move on. That's it bottom line............

You often run into people that are dumb and uneducated. Then there are people that are intelligent and uneducated. Even others that are highly educated but stoopid! The worst are those that are just plain dishonest. Buyer beware!

I think in this case a big problem is just a lack of maturity. But truth be told, the root cause is a lack of supervision. Where in heck are the parents? I never would have let either of my sons orchestrate a disaster like this on their own. I would have been involved on a daily basis to be sure that things were done right.

Amen! We were all 15 years old at one point or another, and we all made mistakes to varying degrees. But my parents would have kicked my butt over my shoulders for trying something like this. Not so much the poor restore - but listing it in better condition than it is.

Which you completely ignored....
Honestly it's beyond me why you bother coming here, and start thread after thread looking for advice on the same subject when 95% of the advice given is ignored when it's something you don't want to read.
You had a group of people here at your fingertips that have done countless successful, SAFE, restorations and scratch builds, and some of them even do this professionally. You chose to ignore what all these people said, and do it the half-*****&d back woods way (perhaps this was advice from the all-knowing neighbor that eliminated his neutral safety switch, and says Teleflex steering is always stiff?) which probably cost you more money and time to do, and has now produced a hull with questionable integrity. The boat is "sold" or solid or how ever you want to say it FOR NOW, but give it 6 months to a year on the water, and I bet dollars to donuts stress cracks in the fiberglass will be present (if they aren't already).

If you do in fact sell this albatross for $1000 dollars of someones hard earned cash with out disclosing what else is wrong with this boat, just remember you have profited on someones misguided trust. You would be no different than Bernie Madoff, or the shyster who just made a few billion dollars betting on our fragile economy loosing it's AAA credit rating.

I'm done with this. It's blatantly clear any advice given in this tread is valued by you as much as the advice given in previous threads. It's a waste of our time to respond to your threads. It's time spent that could be used to help someone else on this forum who actually values what we have to say.

Re: sell it or keep it?

SBL, I think the best thing to do, is relist the boat as accurate as you can. Indicate you rebuilt the stringer grid to a different design than original, and post a photo to show the layout, I'm not sure you have to go so far as to say it's wrong, dangerous, etc... but the fact that it is not how the boat was designed, should be explained to a new owner (my opinion of course). Describe what you did, and how you did it. Just make the for sale add honest. You can be honest with an ad and still tell a potential buyer some of the good things about the boat/motor/trailer combo. Sure the negetives will take away from the positives, but at least you will feel better about it knowing you disclosed the truth.

You might also want to mention the motor troubles you had before the helicoil went. These are things I think a possible buyer would be interested in knowing, prior to making an offer. You might find it harder to sell the boat, but if/when it sells, I think you will sleep better at night.

Re: sell it or keep it?

Looking at the restore thread, my suggestion is to go and buy a bag or marshmallows and some hot dogs, throw a fuse in the boat, and have a weenie roast with your buds.
No matter what anyone tells you, you are going to do whatever you want. Just remember, if someone buys it and assumes its in as good of condition as you state, then turn around and find out its a basket case, you may have some issues at hand. Lawsuits could come out of it but more than likely if someone buys they will know where you are and may come back to get their money back, one way or another. Karma has a way of really catching up to shady people. I know if I spent 1K on something that was in your words "water ready" and really wasnt, I'd be coming back to get my hard earned money.
Not one of these posts matter thought because we all know your going to do the exact opposite of what everyone tells you.

Re: sell it or keep it?

If your intentions are to get the motor running right and fixed thats great, but the for sale ad doesn't mention this (unless you have just decided to do so). Also I still stand by the fact that you might want to mention the redesign of the boat structure to a potential buyer.

Re: sell it or keep it?

To sell the boat right and honestly you don't even need to get the motor running.

You do need to either tell the buyer that you messed up when you took the boat apart and put it back together and show them your restoration thread so they can fix what is wrong... or, take your decking up and fix the structural framing the way it's supposed to be. Then put the decking back down and sell it with a clear conscience. Don't let your desire/greed for money make you do something you will regret later.

I wouldn't worry too much about him posting it on CL. I'm sure there's plenty of people that will flag it if it's not accurately described in the posting.

Re: sell it or keep it?

What bugs me is that ive asked for honest help in the past and havent gotten 4 replys... Not to mention 4 PAGES of advice/help... I was pullin for ya sbl as I stayed in your "resto" thread, now I cannot do so, youve jammed up valuable resources to the iboats community, ive refrained from commenting the past few days this thread has been running for just that fact, I could be helping someone who will listen... May the gods have mercy on yer soul...
