Recently the aluminum upper windshield frame (that contains the roll glass clips) started lifting away from the glass windshield on the starboard panel of my walkaround. I added roll glass extenders and it is still happening...so it is not due to shrinkage of the canvas/glass.
I've tried lifting off the aluminum frame, resetting the U-shaped gasket, and reinstalling everything. As soon as I get the boat up to speed the gap starts to appear between the frame and the windshield (and i start to get wet).
There is a slight indentation in the glass where a fastener could possibly be used. But I would have to drill a hole through this in order to fit in any kind of fastener. I'm very concerned about doing this since the glass is no longer manufactured and I'm worried about doing anything that could break the glass.
Would a brand new gasket provide enough friction to hold everything in place? Is there a sealent I could use? Should I pull out the drill and take my chances?
Any suggestions?
