I have a 2009 Tahoe Q5I SF that I just bought. I love my new boat but the rear seats will not stay closed when going 30 mph or more. This happens on the trailer and on water. I like the stainless steel clamps that came on the boat but they just don't seem to do their intended job. I was wondering I any of you other Tahoe owners have had this problem and what you did to fix it. I don't want thinks flying out, so this has to be changed. Also I am not a fan of the old strap and snap style of hold downs.

Re: Seats fly open

We just bought a 2010 Q5i and ours does the same thing. My dealer is trying to get it fixed but Tracker told them that it isn't a big deal and to trailer it with the cover on or put something heavy on it. I would like to know what other people have done because that isn't acceptable to me nor is putting a strap on it. We really like the boat but to be honest with the problems we are having with it and its less than 2 weeks old we are starting to regret buying it. These may not be the most expensive boats but we still paid their price for it and it should be fixed. Not trying to complain, just in a bad mood after talking to Tracker. One thing I thought of was to take the screw out of the latch and there should be a spring pushing the ball out to hold the seat, may see if a bigger spring could be put in there.

I have the same problem unless i make sure that i snap the straps that hold the seats down. Why did they stop putting them on the newer models? A question for your dealer. I hope you are not using a Bass Pro Shop for this, because I have heard that they are slow at best to solve any issues. A local dealer is your best bet for any issues.

outdorzman - I can tell u about a whole lot of horror stories about tracker and the issues i have had with my 06 Q6 S/F. seems like everyone has to put smart tabs on their boat just so it goes straight at a no wake speed.... Hey Tracker....do u think there's a problem here??? My boat was sent back to the manufacture and Trackers' response was "it's within specs". To many more issues to list....sorry :( but good luck with ur new boat and hope that is all the issues u have......

Re: Seats fly open

I've been around boats for my entire life and Tahoe is not the only hull design that wanders at no wake speed. Let's not start a Tahoe hater thread. I am very happy with my 06 Q6 F/S. Seats that need securing is a no brainer fix and I'm sure that it can be resolved without bashing the entire Tracker company.

Re: Seats fly open

I glued a heavy strip of velcro across mine and screwed the other side to the seat w/ some short screws foe about 5 bucks it fixed the problem

We are trying the double sided tape to see if that will work. Tracker warranty is completely worthless. I really didn't think they were this bad.

Re: Seats fly open

The dealer is doing it for me, will pick it up Thursday. They said I will never see it and that its double sided. They have been fighting with Tracker for a week, Tracker says that the seats flying up isn't a problem so the dealer is fixing it at no charge to me. I have owned other boats that the seats stayed down. Tracker says to just tow it with the cover on but they also say that the tarp isn't designed to be on the boat when trailoring. So, I don't know. They are putting them on the contact points of the seat and fiber glass, will look better than attaching a strap to the seat. I can let you know when I get the boat back.

Did you put the velcro all the way around the bottom or in just a spot or two? I am still waiting for my latch order to come in. I'm still a little uneasy about mounting them on my fiberglass. If I end up not liking them I will have some ugly holes where I install them.

Re: Seats fly open

Hi all, new to this forum/Tahoe boats and just wanted to see if anyone had a solution to this problem yet? I am thinking of going the Velcro route. Yesterday was my first day out with the boat and the previous owner told me about the seats flying up when trailering so I took the rear deck seat off and the bow cushion. But of course then the back middle bench seat decided to fly up so I had to strap it down.

Re: Seats fly open

I just got back from a fun weekend at the cottage boating and guess what? When boating at a speed of over 30mph and no one sitting on the back middle seat the thing decided to open up!

I have a Q5i SF 2009 and this is the first time it has happened since I have always had someone sitting on the seat.....why don't the latches keep it shut?

I am hesitant on installing latches but at the same time I need this problem resolved. After reading about the velco solution, has this worked for anyone? Is it your typical store bought velcro....peel and stick?

Thanks!

Re: Seats fly open

Update....I tightened the screws at each end of the locking pins located within the storage compartment. I didn't go WOT but I was up over 35mph and the seat did not open. Water was a little too choppy to go any faster.

Hopefully this fixes the problem...

Re: Seats fly open

I am a new Q5i owner as of this year. I am also experiencing the problem with the seats and didn't have much luck with the dealer I purchased the boat from. fortunately the lake we frequent is close to a second dealer and so far they are willing to work with me. I noticed on some of the 2010 Q5's that tracker replaced the cabinet hinges on the bench seats with a small hook with a bungie type strap that holds the seat down. I explained my situation with the service manager a couple weeks ago and he is going to see if he will be able to have a couple shipped to my house and I will install. I wasn't able to get pics at the time but I will be sure to post some if I receive the new latches or if I happen to be back at the dealership.
