Search function frustration

Is it just me, or is the new search function very difficult to use? I searched on "water in drive" and got every word that had the letters "i" and "n" together (such as: online, since, inboard, etc.)

The older one was very easy to use. This one is just frustrating. It's easier to start a new thread, but then I miss out on all the previous input that could guide me. Is there an easy way to use it and get good results?

Re: Search function frustration

If you select "Advanced" from the main search screen, select this forum from the drop-down list, enter water in drive in the "exactly matching" field under "subject criteria", you'll get a page of results with the phrase water in drive in the subject line. Alternatively, if you were to search under "content criteria" you could enter water in drive under "exactly matching" and you would get nothing. Herein the breakdown lies. It will search thread titles ("subjects") for phrases, but will not return consistent results (if any at all) for phrases in individual posts ("content"). Also, if you enter information in any other field, i.e. use more than one field to try and refine your search, it will no longer return the phrase but treats everything like individual words. I know the mods are working on fixing it, but it sure is a shame. It's like a vast library where all the books are stored in a giant heap...
