I'm replacing a steering cable that goes through the hull and Mercury calls for the use of Perfect Seal 92-34227-1
I guess it different then any type of marine sealant because it doesn't dry out or harden (perhaps like teflon paste).
If there something else that can be used in it's place available at a boating supercenter, auto supply or even Grainger (have one close to me)?
Thank you

Re: sealant

Thanks for the replies!
I'll see whats available around me, the 3M stuff or Permatex stuff.
When I searched for the Permatex stuff, I found:

Permatex Form-A-Gasket #2 Sealant, and
Permatex Aviation Form-A-Gasket Sealant #3

The #2 stuff didn't say "Aviation"
#2 is in a tube, #3 is brushable.
Which should I chose?
Thanks again!
