Has anyone ever used Seacast for transom repair?
I ask this because this summer I'm going to replace the stringers in my 14.5 foot princecraft because they are rotton in the bow area,(I think because it sits bow down on the trailer) but the transom seems alright and I don't want to rip up the floor twice.
So I was thinking the stringers, floor and carpet this year and if the transom starts feeling mushy, seacast it.
I only have 2 weeks vacation a year and would like to get in some fishing so doing it in "stages" seems logical to me or should it be done all at once?
Any thoughts,
Larry

Re: seacast

Pressure treated kiln dried CCA plywood is cheaper than Seacast and Nida Bond and has a lifetime warranty, contact a local marine dealer in your area to see where you can get it.

Re: seacast

So, I guess what I am really asking is, Should I do the transom and stringers all in one shot or do the stringers this year and the transom next year with seacast or nida bond(to avoid tearing up the floor again). And is a saecast transom as good, better than a plywood transom.
Thanks
Larry

My crystal ball is broken........... I like pictures to see what we are dealing with. It is hard to visualize when there over 1000+ brands not to mention types and configurations of boats.

I read ya Bob, I love the boat pics too!

Check these fiberglass Princecrafts out... nostalgia boat pics are even better than raggedy ol' boat pics!

... especially when they have nostalgic bikini babes in some of the pics!!!:p

You can do them separately if you want. But if it were me I would do them at the same time. Or do the floor and stringers first. You don't necessarily have to recut out the deck with seacast for the transom but when you prep the transom ALL wood must be removed for the best bond possible! Nida Bond is a much thinner pourable material that use ceramic spheres and is cheaper than seacast. I tried to order nida bond and I had to jump thru a bunch of hoops just for 3 pails there service was not very helpful at all. The seacast people were the most helpful , informative, nice bunch I have ever dealt with! To me that goes a long way in deciding with product to use!
That being said it is much easier to get the inside skin of the transom clean by cutting the inside skin out ,clean with grinder reinstall skin and pour!
I hope this was a little helpful!

Re: seacast

If your going through the trouble of cutting the transom out it's more cost effective to put the wood back and glass it in.

I would do all the work at the same time....one time and done.....do you really want to cut open a new deck to do the transom.....plus all the grinding and glass dust again

Re: seacast

I think If you are replacing the stringers you have to pull the deck anyway . Like I said with seacast you don't have to cut the transome skin if you don't want to.
Just a thought, S.P.

No Princcraft sold fiberglass boats, they were built by made by PRODUITS NAUTIQUES ALCAN in Princeville Quebec and sold as a Princecraft, mine is a 1975 14.5 foot

Re: seacast

I think I'll do the stringers, floor and carpet and paint the deck this year, maybe a new top and not tab down the floor in the rear 3 feet so I can unscrew it and get access to the transom when it gets mushy, that way I might be able to get a little fishing in this year.
Then next year, I can paint the hull and do a plywood transom, but my spare time is very limited, so we will see what I can do on vacation.
When it is all done I want it to look like this.
