Sea Drive - System Check Conversion Harness

I have a 91 Johnson/OMC 150HP 90Deg Cross V Sea Drive Engine and am considering doing the System Check Conversion. I've been told that putting in a new harness should not be attempted because of the Sea Drive unit.

The question is why is a new harness required for System Check? My current harness uses 8 wires. Does System Check require more than 8 wires in the harness. Maybe I can get by with the harness I have??

Re: Sea Drive - System Check Conversion Harness

To make it work you need the following:
1) kit #176709 and if you have 3 gallon tank order the #176366 tank pickup also
2) System Check guage
3) 4 wire VRO/OMS pump if not already equipped
why is a new harness required for System Check?
It has oil/temp/level/check engine light that are wired to each system on engine...

Never mind. I just found the answer.

The harness I have has one tan wire. System Check needs 4 tan wires.

I guess I won't be putting in System Check.

Re: Sea Drive - System Check Conversion Harness

Faztbullet,

Thanks for the info.

I was advised by my local shop that putting in the new harness with a Sea Drive is not a smart move unless the existing harness is damaged. They said it would be very difficult to get a good seal through both the transom and the Sea Drive bracket. The system check conversion is not worth the trouble or the expense of doing that.
