Re: scarab

The new Glastron boats are now designed in Sweden, but made in Cadillac, Mi. The "retro" look of the new boats is receiving mixed opinions, some like it, some don't. I think they look sharp !
And for a boat show price of $21K with trailer, the GT185 is a good bargain.

Yes they are copying Yamaha. Yamaha's swim platform has been the envy of the boat manufacturing community for a while. Yamaha is also #1 in new sales of 19, 21, and 24' boats so they must be doing something right.

They are doing it right, and they are #1 because until 4 months ago, they were the ONLY sport jet boat builder of these size boats. Going forward we will have to see how much of this monopoly in market share they can maintain. Scarab. Glastron and Chaparral will grab a big chunk of these sales going forward. How much is yet to be seen.

Sugar sand is also getting back in the market using Merc Sportjets as a power source.

Re: scarab

I don't know, to be honest I like the swim platform of the other manufacturers jet boats way better than the Yamaha. Like I said before I started with buying a jet boat in mind and first on my list was Yamaha. After looking at them all I really like the looks/features of the others better.

They are not the #1 jet boat. They are number in 19, 21, 24 foot bowrider sales. Yamaha uses an open loop marine engine. Not a closed loop snowmobile engine with proven issues. Plus Yamaha makes their hull, deck, and engine.
